The Parthenon Frieze. Block N XIII

At the left side of this block, following Carrey’s drawing, there must have been part of the shield and left hand of apobates number (47) of block XII (left), the horses belonging to a chariot that was evidently depicted on block XIV (right) rear, and an himation-clad marshal (48) raising his right hand in some sort of signal. Despite the fragmentary state of the block, Carrey’s drawing shows that the chariots are near the finish.
